CIAO club will be hosting a very special guest speaker, Francesca Mignosa, this Friday, May 2nd at 3 p.m. in Gordy 113.
Please join us in welcoming Francesca, an Ohio University alumna, former Italian professor and friend.
Francesca will be speaking to classes throughout the day regarding internship opportunities with La Gazzetta Italiana, a small Italian-American newspaper based in Cleveland, where she serves as Editor-in-Chief.
If you cannot join us at 3 p.m., feel free to stop by for lunch with her and Professor Morrison at 1:30 p.m. at Chipotle.
Background
Francesca is originally from Augusta (Sicily), Italy.
She studied at OU where she earned a B.A. in International Studies (2002), a B.A. in French (2002), an M.A. in Communications and Development (2004), a TEFL Certificate (2004) and a Certificate of Fluency in Portuguese (2007).
Throughout the years, she has overseen numerous creative ventures. From June 2004 to December 2006, Francesca lived in NYC where she was a writer, producer and interpreter for HBO, A&E, ESPN, DC-TV, KPI-TV, Discovery Health Channel, RAI International, EUE Screen Gems, and First Look Media.
Upon her return to Ohio, she completed a documentary titled Sicilian Puppets and Imagination: A Journey, a personal voyage through her island as she investigated Sicilian Puppet Theatre. In June 2006, the documentary was archived at the International Museum Marionettes in Palermo, Sicily.
From September 2006 to August 2007, Francesca worked on an Entertainment-Education project in collaboration with the Brazilian Government and RedeGlobo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil whereby she analyzed the effects and reception of social and health messages of the renowned Brazilian soap opera Paginas da Vida.
Throughout the years, Francesca has taught Film, Italian and English as a second language throughout Ohio and in NYC. She recently completed and published her first Italian Conversational Book.
In November 2007, she received the Italian Literary Award "Sicilia Mondo" in Catania, Sicily.
Francesca speaks Italian, English, Portuguese, Spanish and French. In her spare time, she is passionate about travel, cinema, literature and cooking.
